Holt Family of Companies has a deep and rich history that dates back to 1931 with the start of our founding companies and families. This timeline is designed to provide you an idea of how our companies started and evolved over the years.
1931 | Marysville Tractor & Equipment Co. is formed by Daniel W Beatie, operating as a Caterpillar dealer covering Marysville, CA. |
1935 | Marysville Tractor expands, opening a location in Roseville, CA. |
1939 | Parker M. Holt & Harry D. Holt open Holt Bros. another Caterpillar Dealer covering Santa Maria, CA. |
1940 | Holt Bros. transfers their Caterpillar territory in Santa Maria to Joseph G. Moore company while taking over the Stockton, CA territory from L.F. Grimsley, Inc. This includes two store locations in Lodi and Tracy. |
1947 | Marysville Tractor opens its Robbins, CA store. |
1955 | Ken Beatie becomes President & General Manager of Marysville Tractor. |
1962 | Holt Bros. takes over the Modesto territory from Valley Tractor Co. including stores in Los Banos and Merced. The service territory now covers six counties in San Joaquin Valley. And while Agriculture is the main industry, logging and construction contribute to the company’s yearly sales volume. |
1962 | Meanwhile, Marysville Tractor expands its territory to Sacramento, Yolo and part of Solano counties, adding stores in Sacramento and Woodland. |
1963 | Marysville Tractor & Equipment Co. changes its name to Tenco Tractor, Inc. which is derived from the ten counties the company’s territory covers. The company now has stores in Marysville, Robbins, Sacramento and Woodland. This year, business changes from a predominantly agricultural customer base to industrial. |
1969 | Tenco opens its new headquarters in Pleasant Grove, just north of Sacramento. |
1977 | Gordon Beatie takes over as President of Tenco Tractor. |
1982 | Tenco Tractor takes over part of the I.G. Zumwalt Company’s territory, including locations in West Sacramento and Williams. |
1987 | Parker & Harry Holt retire from Holt Bros. selling the company to Victor Wykoff, Jr. and Ron Monroe who become President/CEO & Executive Vice President, respectively. |
1992 | Tenco acquires the Bay Area Forklift Territory from Peterson Cat. |
1997 | Tenco opens its first The Cat Rental Store in Sacramento, CA on Fruitridge Rd. |
1999 | Tenco Tractor Inc. and Holt Bros. come together to form Holt of California. Together, the company now employs 500 employees and has 11 locations throughout the territory. Ken Monroe becomes President of the newly formed company, which he continues to serve in this capacity today. |
2003 | Holt of California’s forklift division acquires the Gallo Wine account from Fairbanks Trucking. The company begins offering on-site services for all forklifts, repairs and rentals to Gallo Winery. |
2006 | Holt California celebrates its 75th anniversary while employing over 700 employees in 14 locations. |
2007 | Holt opens another The Cat Rental Store location in Vacaville and an Ag store in Woodland. |
2008 | SITECH West is acquired, serving the evolving technology needs of Holt of California’s construction & agriculture customers. |
2011 | Holt of California celebrates its 80th anniversary. |
2012 | Holt of Ag Solutions acquires Stanislaus Implement & Hardware in Modesto, CA. |
2015 | Holt of California is #1 in World Market Share for Track Type Tractors (Dozers). |
2015 | Holt Ag Solutions acquires Merced Hesston and Woodland Tractor, expanding its store footprint to 3 – Modesto, Merced & Woodland. |
2016 | Holt of California celebrates its 85th anniversary with 17 locations. |
2018 | Holt Ag Solutions opens 2 new locations, one in Willows, CA and one in Richvale, CA. |
2019 | Holt Ag Solutions acquires Peterson Cat’s Ag Division, expanding into Northern California and all of Oregon, including a store in Albany, OR. |
2019 | The Cat Rental Store opens it’s 10th store in Elk Grove, CA. |
2020 | Holt Ag Solutions opens 4 new locations in Oregon – Banks, Madras, Merrill and Salem. |
